Bishop Fred Thompson Jr. (Sam) was born on September 5, 1958 in Robeson County to Fred and Doretha Thompson and departed his life on Wednesday morning November 10, 2021. Bishop Thompson is a 1977 graduate of Pembroke Senior High School. He worked for the Public Schools of Robeson County and Flair Flow Manufacturing Company for many years until his health declined. He joined St. Mary Holiness Church at an early age where he confessed Christ. He preached his initial sermon in 1987 under the leadership of the late Dr. J.C. Bryant. At his Church Bishop Thompson served in many capacities both on the local and national levels. In the local church he was a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and member of the St. Mary Male Choir. Bishop Thompson served as Pastor of Mt. Vernon Holiness Church (Johns Station) Maxton, NC for 11 years. In addition, Bishop Thompson then proceeded to Power House Temple of Praise in Lumberton, NC. He was the current pastor of Open Arms Holy Bible Church of God in Rowland, NC under the leadership of Senior Bishop Freeman Morrison. In the Holy Bible Church of God, he served as Presiding Elder, and member of the Presbyterian board. He served both as Vice and Union President, National Youth Department and National Finance Committee. Above all of his accolades, he was a faith-walking, bible believing man of God with a vision, a tremendous love for people and had a love for working on lawn mowers, watching drag racing and wrestling. He was proceeded in death by his father Fred Thompson Sr. and brother Issac Ray Thompson. Bishop Thompson leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Pastor Shelia Thompson; four children, Shemeca McRae, Micole Williams, Fred Terrell Thompson and Perry Thompson (Tiffany); mother, Doretha Thompson; three brothers and six sisters; Levendar Thompson, Elder Coletha Campbell (Ronnie) Elder Jenny Wright, Minister Rosaline Whittington (Robert) Penella Mitchell (Robert), Betty McIntyre, Pastor Elbert Thompson (Grizelda), Nathaniel Thompson (Teresa), all of Lumberton, NC and Doris Jones (Harold) of Winston-Salem, NC; foster brother, Terry Locklear; thirteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, other relatives and friends Professional Services entrusted to - Colvin Funeral Home, Lumberton, North Carolina.
