Mr George Tyree
February 4, 1940 - May 17, 2021
George joined Greater St. Paul C.M.E. Church, Bessemer, Alabama, at an early age. He possessed a deep love for music and he formed a youth quartet at the church. He also played the trumpet. Two of his favorite classes in high school were upholstery and tailoring. He also excelled in football his sophomore and senior years as Guard, and was the captain of the 1958 team. After graduation in 1959 from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Alabama, he enlisted in the United States Army, joining the 101st Airborne Unit. George was sent to the 173rd Airborne Unit in Viet Nam. He served three tours along with his brother, Roger. During his time of service he received the Bronze Star Medal (1979) and Military Order Purple Heart (1968). Master Sargent George A. Tyree ended his 25 year military career in the 82nd Airborne Unit in Fayetteville, North Carolina. George had many friends during his lifetime, however, childhood friend, James Williams, remained in constant contact with him through the years. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Cornelia Tyree; children, Jasmine Bradford (Andre) and Tony Tyree (Angelise); four step daughters, Beverly Mason of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Mary Hugine of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Diane Lucas (Dana) of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Marsha Shelly of Raleigh, North Carolina; siblings, Barbara F. McCarroll (John Huey) of Hueytown, Alabama, Roger I. Tyree, Sr. (Lillie Q.) of Pinson, Alabama, Kenneth W. Tyree of Bessemer, Alabama and Violet L. Anthony (Broher Elijah), McCalla of Alabama; 17 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren
