Roger Lynn McKoy, beloved son of the Late Jessie McKoy and Mary Tucker McKoy, was born November 5, 1952, in Lillington, North Carolina. Roger transitioned from his earthly journey to his eternal home January 1, 2022, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jessica McKoy. A Time to Learn Roger was formerly educated in the Harnett County School System where he attended Shawtown High School and Lillington High School. He graduated from Lillington High School, class of 1971. His educational attainments include: an Associate Degree, Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, NC, Bachelor of Arts from UNC-Greensboro, M. Ed Mississippi State University, Starkville, MS, and Administrative Certification, Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC. A Time to Serve Roger served in the US Air Force and Air Force Reserve as a Personnel Specialist; he retired in 1998 after 22 years of service. His greatest love was his career of forty-four years dedicated to educating children. Roger’s servant leadership was also demonstrated in the following roles: a Counselor; Dropout Prevention Counselor; School Resource Officer; Youth Services Coordinator; Assistant Principal and Principal. After retiring from Cumberland County Schools in 2009, he served as a School Administrator for ten years at the Alpha Academy Charter School in Fayetteville, NC. Throughout his career span, he was recognized as: Cumberland County Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year, 2000-2001; received the NCDPI Comprehensive School Reform “Promising School Award 2004” (Ramsey Street Alternative High School) and Alternative School Administrator of the Year for NC, 2008-2009. A Time of Transformation Roger accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1995 and in 1996, joined Parks Chapel FWB Church, now Kingdom Impact Global Ministries. He faithfully served as a spark of inspiration using his gifts as a Steward while releasing his prophetic anointing, bringing impact and influence wherever he went. His commitment as a leader was unwavering. A Time of Sowing Many of Roger’s fondest times were during family gatherings for he understood that Family Matters. He regularly presided over the McLean Family Reunion gatherings and prayer services and the many Tucker Family gatherings, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. Citizenship and civic responsibilities were of high importance; he served many years at the polls as a Chief Judge for the Cumberland County Board of Elections. A Time of Remembrance Roger leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Edna Lewis McKoy, of Fayetteville NC, children, Shameka Forte’ (Roderick Jones) of Birmingham, AL and Rogelyn McKoy Bryant (James) of Fayetteville, NC, Kelvin Davis (Monica) of Charlotte, NC and Earl Davis, Jr., Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, JaeBonae Bryant, Mitchell and Madison Davis. One great granddaughter, Avery Stafford, one brother, John Milton (Gloria) McKoy of Broadway NC., his beloved aunts, Rev. Martha Davis of Knightdale, NC and Louise Tucker of Fayetteville, NC. He was adored by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and colleagues.
