Benito Luna Jr., affectionately known to many as “Calito” and lovingly nicknamed “Scoob,” passed away on May 29, 2026, at the age of 59 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Born on September 19, 1966, in New Haven, Connecticut, Benito lived a life filled with faith, laughter, music, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. Calito was the beloved son of Benito Luna Sr. and Paula Luna. Throughout his life, he worked as a carpenter, taking pride in building and creating with his hands. More importantly, he was the kind of man who was always willing to help others, whether it was fixing something that was broken, lending a hand when it was needed, or simply showing up for the people he loved. A devoted Christian, Calito lived his life guided by faith and a deep belief in God’s plan. He was known for his larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and ability to bring joy to any room he entered. To know Calito was to know laughter. He had a gift for making people smile, telling stories that could keep everyone entertained, and finding humor even during life’s most difficult moments. Calito had a deep love for rap music and was known for his incredible freestyle talent. Whether he was creating rhymes on the spot or sharing his favorite music with those around him, his passion for music was evident to everyone who knew him. He also loved sports, adventure, and staying active. No matter what he was doing, Benito brought energy, enthusiasm, and a contagious spirit that made people want to be around him. Above all else, Calito loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His greatest joy came from spending time with the people he loved and creating memories that would last a lifetime. He leaves behind his wife, Shelia Burroughs; his children, Angel Keeton, Precious Keeton, Kasheem Luna, Kalito Luna, Kalinda Luna, and Kai Luna; and his cherished grandchildren, Terrell Poole, LaMirr Thompson, Kaden Luna, Kanai Luna, Kairee Luna, Kahlani Luna, Oaklen Luna, and A’mor Fulton. He is also survived by his siblings, Juana “Jennie” Rivera, Mary “Margie” Leon, Ramon Vasquez, Teresa Vasquez-Arroyo, and Bernard Luna, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure his memory. Calito was preceded in death by his siblings John Vasquez, Willie Vasquez, Alice Vasquez, Alex Vasquez, and Delio Vasquez. Those who knew Calito will remember a man whose presence could light up the darkest room. He never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome, loved, and important. His laughter was infectious, his spirit was uplifting, and his love for others was genuine. Whether he was telling jokes, freestyling, sharing stories, or simply spending time with family, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared so freely.
