RET E5 Charles Simmons

Charles was born on February 3, 1946 to Rosetta Bing in Beaufort, SC. He was educated by the Beaufort County School System where he graduated from Robert Smalls High School Class of 1964. After graduating high school, Charles joined the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and then joined the US Army Reserve. He then continued his education at Fayetteville Technical School where he earned his degree in Auto Mechanics. Lastly, he retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company (Good Year) after working almost 30 years. His spiritual journey began at an early age at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Beaufort, SC. He was a former member of Washington Park Missionary Baptist Church of Fayetteville, NC. Later he joined Beauty Spot Missionary Baptist Church and was a devoted and faithful member up until his health declined. He was a member of the Male Choir and Food Bank Ministry. Charles was also a member of the Stewardship Classic Car and Truck Club. He loved tinkering with cars and small engines. He was interested in anything related to music, especially gospel music. He even tried to strike a chord on the guitar. The beach was his favorite destination for summer and birthday trips, and he would be sure to bring his digital camera in his shirt pocket. Charles was a homebody, but he would take a country ride to visit family and friends. Charles was always prepared; if you ever needed an ink pen, some gum, or a handkerchief, he had it. He found joy giving back to the community. Charles was not an ordinary person, he was a sharp dresser, a hat collector, and an outstanding mechanic, but mostly he valued his relationship with God. Words cannot express how he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and family. We are comforted in knowing that Charles is in God’s care. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosetta Bing, one brother, Robert Simmons, two sisters, Charlesetta Wallace Johnson and Estelle Bing. Charles’s memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 58 years, Glenda Marie Simmons, his daughter, Pamela Michelle Simmons-Forbes (Vernon) of Columbia, SC, his son, Charles Simmons of Tacoma, WA, two granddaughters, Sierra Simmons of Tacoma, WA and Peighton D. Forbes of Atlanta, GA, two great grandchildren, Ahmare Simmons of Tacoma, WA and Jayden Simmons of Tacoma, WA; two sisters, Virginia “Jean” Simmons of Bronx, NY and Rose B. Ferguson of Beaufort, SC, four brothers, William Bing (Susan) of DMV area , Arthur L. Bing Sr. of Clarksville, TN, Henry “Hank” Bing (Robertha) of Beaufort, SC, and Jerry Bing of Ocean Isle, CA. One brother in law, Antonio McNeill of Alpharetta, GA, two sister in laws, Hazel Byrd of Alpharetta, GA and Yvonne Teasley of Fayetteville, NC. A host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends
