Mrs. Christine McCollum

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13 Christine McCollum was born March 23, 1938 to the late Deacon James Clio Melton and Winnie Cash Melton in Wadesboro, North Carolina. She departed this life on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at her home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hilbert McCollum, her parents, six sisters, Winnie Rose Melton, Clara Mae Waddell, Linda Faye Thompson, Cora Lee Ford, Irene Thompson, and Louise Blackmon. One brother, Clarence Edward Melton, brothers-in-law, John Lester Graham, Bowman Thompson, James Winston, J.D. Bullock, Paul Waddell and Benjamin Lewis Thompson. She attended Proctorville High School in Orrum, NC. She was first employed as a Hospital Food Service Worker at Southeastern General Hospital. Christine later became employed at Lumbee Manufacturing Company before returning to the hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Later, she transitioned from the hospital to Woodhaven Nursing Center where she worked until her retirement. Christine was a great seamstress; she was the family seamstress for many years. She loved her family, traveling and dining out. She also enjoyed cooking, crafting, and singing. She was the composer of many songs. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Evergreen, NC. Her first church membership was Thompson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Lumberton, North Carolina. She later moved her membership to Smith Chapel Bible Church of God in Lumberton, North Carolina. While there she served under of the leadership of the late Bishop J. P. McNeill, the late Bishop Genathern Winston and Elder Kenner Jessup. During her membership at Smith Chapel, she served as an usher, ordained church mother, and would assist when needed in the choir. She was a great steward in the army of the Lord who served faithfully until her death. She leaves behind to cherish her fond memories, her sisters, Everlean Graham, Mary Winston, Margie Bullock, all of Lumberton, NC; and Sandra Jackson (George), Fayetteville, NC; two brothers, James Melton and Thomas Melton (Triesta), of Lumberton, NC; two brothers-in-law, Elder John David Blackmon and James Ford, Sr., two sisters-in-law, Triesta Melton and Diane Melton, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
