Corene Dempsey Thomas

Corene Thompson Dempsey Thomas, daughter of the late Sherman and Bessie Thompson was born in Lumberton, NC. on August 8, 1935. She departed this life on April 14, 2024 in Lumberton NC. She was married to the late Lucious Dempsey Jr, and to this union nine children were born in EnglishTown (Pergolaville) New Jersey. Corene accepted Christ at an early age at first Baptist Church 504 west 2nd Street, Lumberton N.C. She held many positions throughout the years and was active in the life of FBC. she enjoyed being a Servant of the Lord. and would sing to the Lord every morning. Corene graduated from J.H. Hayswood High School in 1953. She would later further her education to become an advocate For Childrens Rights in Freehold NJ. In 1975 Corene returned to Lumberton, continuing to follow her passion for Children. She was employed at first Baptist Church to work in their Day care facility. She would later go on to work for the public Schools of Robeson County Serving at Green Grove, Proctorville, and eventually Long Branch Elementary where she retired. Corene Continued to Serve and Volunteer for the public schools until the age of 80. In 1999 Her love for God led Corene to accept yet another Call on her life, she was licensed as a Missionary under the late Bishop Ned Graham and Was later elevated to Minister Corene Thomas. As time and age surrounds us all, Corene commute t to Church was Concerning to her Children. Minister Thomas decided to place her membership at sandy Grove Baptist Church Lumberton NC. under the leadership of T. Shedrick Byrd and Later under the leadership of Pastor K. Barnes she Called both these men of God her sons) Corene served faithfully until the declining of her health. As a woman who loved hats, she wore many of them. She answered to many titles she was Ma`D, Grandma. Mother, Sweets, Goldie, granny Coco, to name a few. She enjoyed her family, gatherings, cooking, traveling, and communing with friends. She lived a full life. always encouraging, smiling, loving. She was preceded in death by her husband Lucious Dempsey Jr., three daughters Vicki Dempsey, Deidre Dempsey, and Edna Dempsey Walters. Seven sisters Bessie Thompson, Addie M. Dunn, Luef. Thompson, Annie Stevenson, Mildred Davis, Mary J Thompson, and Lessie Nare. She leaves to cherish her fond memories. 4 daughters De`borah D. Williams of Killeen Texas, Ollie McCallum (William), Beverly Dempsey, Lucia Dempsey of Lumberton NC. Two Sons Derrick Dempsey Sr. (Audrey) and Darnell of Lumberton. NC. Two brothers Sherman Thompson Jr. (Floria) of Baltimore, Md., David Thompson of Lumberton. twelve grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, family and Friends, Her Spiritual Children Ruth Graham, Zavery McDougald, A special Thank you to Ivan Davis, for "always being in the moment. and Thank you to all her many Spiritual Children our Mother loved you all
