Mr. David Allen Melvin

David A. Melvin was born September 3, 1940 and his home going was January 17, 2023 at the home in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was born in Sampson County to the late Charlie N. Melvin and Frances L. Johnson. He was married to Lounora Melvin. To this union four children were born: Betty A. Melvin, and David Melvin, Jr., Joanne Melvin, and Michael Melvin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Frances, wife Lounora, daughter Joanne, son Michael, brothers Charles, Joseph, Willie, Donald Ray, and sister Frances Melvin. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Betty A. Melvin, son, David Melvin Jr. both of Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Florence Rogers (Freddie) of Fayetteville, NC, Doris Johnson (Arthur), and Peggy Patrick both of Spring Lake, NC; brothers-in-law, Charles Melvin, and Donald Melvin of Fayetteville, NC; sisters-in-law, Clara Ferguson, and Darlene Melvin of Chicago IL; three grandchildren, Lounora, Caque, and Terrance; eight great-grandchildren; one goddaughter, Christine; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. At a young age he was baptized and joined Cedar Creek First Baptist Church. He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as a young child. He often spoke about and encouraged everyone to give their life to God. Evangelism was a significant part of his life. He always was willing to share and encourage others to learn more about God and Jesus. He would often quiz those that proclaimed to know God, to make sure they were on the right track. He was determined to make sure everyone lived their life to the best of their ability. He overcame many obstacles and was never willing to accept defeat. David always said to others, “You need to get yourself right, for God”. David was educated in the Cumberland County schools. He also attended Fayetteville Technical Institute receiving training and certification in Electrical Wiring & Circuitry. He always encouraged everyone to take their education seriously, to stay in school, and to give the best effort you can. He was most proud of his education and his technical ability. As an entrepreneur, he worked as a residential electrician. He also learned the plumbing trade due to the significant requests from customers, and the lack of other plumbing contractors. He loved wiring houses, electrical panels, water pumps, HVAC units, and anything that he got a chance to work on. He saw his trade as a hobby, and he wanted to be the best at it. He did many odd jobs for his family, friends, and others in the surrounding Fayetteville area, and the Cedar Creek community. David was someone you could count on. Oftentimes he worked to help others even though they could not pay for his services. He also taught several others in the community his trade when they were willing to learn. Many of the families around Cedar Creek depended on David, especially during the cold winters when water pumps were freezing and HVAC units would fail to work. David was a family man that spent most of his time with his family at home. As a single parent, he continued to raise his children and to help to raise his grandchildren after the loss of his wife Lounora. He always entertained others in his home, and his home was open to anyone. David was a cheerful soul that enjoyed life. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and they were always special in his life. He instilled in them the concept of family. He taught them that you don’t have to have everything, but you can enjoy your life with God’s help. He was a true patriarch of the family and if anyone needed guidance, many of them came to David. He was known to be a man of wisdom. He was happiest when entertaining others, and spending his moments with his family. David loved people and the Cedar Creek community knew that his home was a place they were welcome. Many of the men and young boys of the community came to his home to get hair cuts and for him to tie their neck ties for church on Sunday mornings. David dedicated his life as a servant to God, his family and friends. He opened his door to strangers. To those that needed relief he gave his best. He lent to others, even when he had lack.
