Mr. Gregory McDuffie

Gregory “Greg” McDuffie, 68, peacefully transitioned to his eternal home on the early afternoon of Tuesday, August 06, 2024. He was a beloved Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend. Born to the late Troy Evans McDuffie and Doreathea Nicholson McDuffie on March 26, 1956 in Columbia, SC, Greg was the third oldest of six siblings, four boys and two girls. Greg’s early childhood was full of travel due to his father’s military career. The family lived in South Carolina, Germany, Kentucky, and Lumberton, NC, before finally making Fayetteville, NC home in 1969. Greg grew up in the Hollywood Heights community, attending Lewis Chapel School and Seventy First High School. He drove the school bus, played junior varsity basketball (#4), varsity football (#44), and played the trumpet in the marching band, before graduating in 1973. Greg served in the United States Army from 1974-1980 before moving to Jacksonville, FL where he attended Florida Junior College and proudly became the first in his family to obtain a college degree. After earning both his Associate in Science in Sales-Marketing-Retailing and Associate in Science in General Business in 1981, Greg went on to have success as a top automobile salesman, a Gold Direct Distributor for Amway, and other entrepreneurial pursuits. Being Doreathea’s son, Greg was raised in the church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior. “Honor Thy Mother & Father” was Greg’s favorite commandment, and he did just that. In 1982, Greg was baptized in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. In 1992, Greg’s only child, Serenity Angellena McDuffie was born. She was the light of his world and he proudly took on the responsibility of raising her as a single father. Greg and his daughter relocated to Atlanta, GA where they lived for several years, before moving back home to Fayetteville, NC in 1999. Serenity’s teachers would affectionately refer to Greg as “Mr. Mom.” Being a father was Greg’s greatest accomplishment. Throughout his adult years, Greg continued his career as an automobile salesman and independent contractor, working hard to provide for him and his daughter, before retiring in 2018. In his spare time, if he wasn’t building, painting, or fixing something, Greg enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, shooting pool, and playing card games like Spades and Bid Whist. Everyone who knew Greg could agree on one thing, that he was too cool. He had his own unique style, often wearing cowboy hats & du-rags, Nike sneakers, gold chains, and gold rings on almost every finger. He loved westerns and cowboy culture, and his favorite animal was the Bald Eagle. He had an eclectic taste in music, listening to anything from funk, rock, r&b, hip-hop, and everything in between. Greg was honest, loyal, strong-willed, resilient, and full of wisdom. He was caring, supportive, and gave generously. His love for family was only surpassed by his complete adoration of his daughter, Serenity. They were inseparable and you would not see one without the other. He was her biggest fan and cheerleader, loudly celebrating all of her milestones and achievements with immense pride. The day before his transition, Greg rededicated his life to Jesus Christ, securing his one-way ticket to Heaven and ensuring the salvation of his soul. Greg is survived by: his only daughter, Serenity McDuffie of Fayetteville, NC; two sisters, Brenda Morrison of Dallas GA and Barbara “Bay” McDuffie of Fayetteville, NC; three brothers, Larry “Pete” McDuffie, Dr. Michael McDuffie (Valarie), and Troy “Lon” McDuffie (Tanesha) of Fayetteville, NC; one godson, Artaveous “AJ” Purvis Jr. of Conyers, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Doreathea Nicholson McDuffie (1998) and Troy Evans McDuffie (2023).
