Mr. Jonathan Ray

In the quiet hours of an autumn morning, we bade farewell to Jonathan Ray, a man whose spirit was as untamed as the wind. Born to the late John R. and Nina R. Ray on November 26, 1962, Jonathan entered the world with eyes wide open, a harbinger of the relentless zest for life he would carry with him through the years. From the moment he took his first breath, it was evident that Jonathan "BooBoo” Ray was born with an irrepressible spirit. His nickname, given in those early years when his mischievous grin foretold the playful trouble of a boy too full of life, stayed with him as a badge of honor. Like a comet streaking across the sky, BooBoo blazed a trail of warmth and light. His approach to life was one of immediacy and fervor, a do-first-ask-later mannerism that propelled him through an existence marked by spontaneous adventure and heartfelt connections. A proud Falcon from the 71st High School class of 1981, Jonathan took to the football field with as much passion as he did to every endeavor. His commitment continued into his years of service with the US Army, where he spent a tour in South Korea and two years dedicating himself to his country. Jonathan was also a skilled carpenter, his hands as adept with the tools of his trade as he was in mastering the many facets of life, indeed a jack of all trades. Jonathan passed away on November 05, 2023, at 11:11 PM. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Nina R. Ray; his brother, Tony Ray; and his son, Jereme "Bud" Handon. His departure has left a void in the fabric of our lives, but he leaves behind a legacy of unbridled passion and the courage to seize every moment. His life was a vivid tapestry of impromptu decisions, each thread woven with the bold colors of someone who lived without regret. He is survived by his life companion Miranda McCall; his children LaTesha Handon, Khadijah Ray, Janarian Ray, Jacobe Ray, and Somaya Ray; his siblings, Lois (Archie) Alexander, Columbus, GA; Yvonne (Jesse) Monroe, Columbia, SC; John (Myrna) Ray, Columbus, OH; Mara (Johnny Lytch) Ray , Gardner, NC; and Kelvin (Anita) Ray, Newport News, VA, and host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jonathan was a constellation of family and friends who were both the anchors and the sails of his tempestuous journey. He was a brother, friend, mentor, a force of nature, and a free spirit who never lost his capacity to surprise and inspire us. "Farewell, Boo-boo. You were a maverick, a trailblazer, and a treasure to those fortunate enough to know you. Your story, written in the ink of pure, unabashed life, will be told and retold, igniting fires in the souls of rebellious dreamers
