Ms. Latanya Denise James

LaTanya Denise James, the daughter of Percy Lee James and the late Lillie S. James departed this life on November 26, 2024, at Capital Health Medical Center, in Pennington, NJ. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Shepherd and a brother, Felton McLeod, Jr. LaTanya was born on July 31, 1974, in Huntsville, Alabama. The family settled in Pemberton, NJ after her father retired from the Army. LaTanya attended school in Pemberton, graduating from Pemberton High in 1991. She attended St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1996 with a GPA of 3.8. She excelled academically and was a member of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. While attending St. Augustine’s, she also joined the Illustrious sisterhood of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. During her college years, she attended Solid Rock Ministries International in Garner, NC under the leadership of Pastor L. Foday Farrar. It was here that she submitted to God by accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior as well as utilized her God given gift to sing in the choir. After graduation, she returned home and attended Church on Fort Dix Base with her mother where she continued to sing and follow her calling as well as volunteered her services to other ministry activities. LaTanya explored several career options until she realized her true passion was for the education of children. After obtaining her teaching certification, she taught elementary and middle school students in the Pemberton Township School System where she left a lasting impact on a multitude of young minds. She was also able to connect with her students beyond a surface level, which elicited much excitement whenever they would see her outside of the classroom! LaTanya was a great sports enthusiast. She especially enjoyed football, basketball, and baseball. She would watch the games with her father and brother participating in a friendly rivalry which led to an array of memories that will last a lifetime.Left to cherish her memories are her father, Percy Lee James, her sisters, Delores White of Garner, North Carolina, and Mary Herring of the home, brothers, Percy Lewis James of Claymont, Delaware, an Algen McCrae of Lumberton North Carolina. One Aunt Estella Cromartie of Brooklyn, New York and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
