Memorial Reflections and Obituary "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only , but unto all them also that love His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8 Bro. Lloyd Crooms, age 87, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center of Fayetteville, with his loving family by his side. Bro. Crooms or better known as "Brother" to his, family and friends, was born on May 17, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York to Lloyd Sr. and Katherine Davis Crooms. He attended public school in Brooklyn, New York. His favorite pastimes were traveling, driving tour buses, working on cars and talking about his days in the military. He also never met a stranger and would help anyone who came by and was in need. He was also a devoted Mason. Lloyd worked several jobs during his lifetime, but most of his years were spent in the U.S. Army. He was a devoted school bus driver with the Cumberland County School System and he work with the Fayetteville Transit Authority as a supervisor and drove tour buses for several companies. He never met a stranger. Everyone loved him and he was special to everyone who knew him. He was known as a smooth talker. He was very charismatic and you knew it from any conversation that you had with him. He had a nickname for everyone. His famous phrase when asked how he was doing was: “I am calm, cool, and copacetic.” Brother Crooms leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Crooms, who dedicated her life to caring for him in his sickness, sister, Theresa Crooms of Fayetteville, NC, step-daughter, Brenda Blue, of Fayetteville, NC. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Crooms Sr. and Katherine Davis Crooms, son, Carl Crooms, Sr., daughter, Brenda McNair, sisters: Evelyn Crooms, Janice McFadgen, Joyce Pullin, Lois Evans and brothers Edward Crooms, Ronald Crooms, Stanley Crooms and Samuel Crooms. Brother Crooms lived his early years in Brooklyn, New York. After being drafted into the U.S. Army he traveled all around the world for many tours. After he retired he moved to Hope Mills, NC where he remained until his death. He joined Union Oak A.M.E. Zion Church and worked diligently in many capacities as an: usher, Trustee and choir member. He was a faithful member until his health declined. Today, we celebrate the life of our beloved Bro. Crooms, and we too, will continue to serve the Lord so that we may also rejoice in the presence of the Lord.
