Ms. Mary Jane McNair

Mary Jane McNair was born in Lumberton, NC on May 31, 1954, to the late Joseph and Ethel Youngblood McNair who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Omar McNair; brothers: Roosevelt Youngblood, Robert Allen and Jimmy Sherrill McNair, and sister Patricia Me Nair. Mary Jane aha "Candy." got her nickname from her favorite candy, Mary Janes. She attended Eastside High School in St. Paul's, NC. She accepted Christ at an early age. Mary Jane reaffirmed her faith on May 16, 2024. While in the hospital she assured those around her that by the Grace and Mercy of God, she was saved and Gods' will, will be done in her life. Mary's confession of faith is her living out one of her favorite passages in the Bible Psalm 23 which proclaims, "The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." She also loved Psalm 91 and John 1:51. Mary Jane was blessed with many talents, especially the ability to play softball. Her favorite position was center field. She had to have number 31 on her back, because she was born on the 31st. She competed locally and was well known for her dedication to competition. Her competitive spirit was felt if you ever played Spades against her. Mary Jane loved to work with her hands, she loved to crochet and draw. As a young girl, her passion and gift of drawing would have given her an opportunity to pursue an Arts Degree. Mary Jane was also the go to hair braider for her family. She would braid her son Dadi's hair, and all of her nieces. A few nephews too. When she braided hair, let's just say, she made sure they didn't come loose. She was a babysitter; she kept her great nieces and great nephews. Mary Jane found relaxation by putting together puzzles. jigsaws, crosswords, and word searches. She loved hard. Her heart was to serve others, faithfully. When she knew of a need, she was always ready to help even if it meant denying herself. She never met a stranger. Regardless of who you were she welcomed you with open arms, as though she had known you her whole life. Mary Jane will always be known for her loving, caring, full of life sassy spirit.
