Mr. Michael Earl Briggs

Michael Earl Briggs was born on January 6, 1959, in Paterson, NJ to John and Mary (McRae) Briggs. On the evening of March 2, 2023, God sent an angel to put him to rest, for his mission on Earth was complete. Michael was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey. He was raised in a Christian home along with his sisters: Carolyn and Vaneaster, his brothers: Leslie and Eddie. He was educated in the Paterson Public School system attending Public School Number 10 and Eastside High School. In the summer of 1993, Michael met Monica Mack of Paterson, NJ. They married on September 29, 2000, in Wappinger Falls, NY. Michael and Monica were blessed to nurture and raise four children: Courtney, Tyler, Trent and Johnna. They were also blessed with a grandson, Trey. In his early years, Michael attended Canaan Baptist Church in Paterson, NJ under the leadership of the late Rev. Gadson L. Graham Sr. Over the years, he was a faithful member of Olive Chapel Baptist Church, Sharpsburg, NC, City of God Ministries, Charlotte, NC, and Mount Calvary Baptist Church, West Palm Beach, FL. For over 20 years, he served faithfully on various usher boards and security ministries. He was a man who loved God and was not ashamed to show it. Michael was the patriarch of his family. He sacrificed his own aspirations to support his family. The family moved around a lot due to Monica’s career. Michael worked various jobs over the years such as a machine operator, truck driver, warehouse worker, computer operator and security officer prior to his illness in 2011. His family would often joke and ask if his family was in the “witness protection program”. Michael would just laugh and take it all in stride. Michael loved to barbecue, watch sports (especially wrestling), laugh, play cards, cruise, and spend time with his family. Michael was preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Mary; brother, Leslie and his sister, Vaneaster. Michael leaves to mourn and cherish his memory: his loving wife, Monica (Mack) Briggs of Sanford, NC; two daughters, Courtney Briggs (Willie) Davis of Fayetteville, NC and Johnna Murphy of Sanford, NC; two sons, Tyler Briggs and Trent Briggs of Winston Salem, NC; one grandson, Trey Briggs of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Carolyn (Briggs) Johnson of Paterson, NJ; one brother, John Eddie Briggs of Paterson, NJ; two aunts, Cledell Peterkin of Greenville, NC and Ada Campbell of Norfolk, VA; two nephews, Jermaine Briggs of Paterson, NJ and Les Capers of Paterson, NJ; three nieces, Nakia Briggs of High Point, NC, Jamie Briggs of Paterson, NJ and Michella Johnson Adeleke of Tarrytown, NY; motherin-law, Lula Mack of Bishopville, SC; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends
