RET. SFC Thaddeus Jablonskia Mims

THADDEUS JABLONSKIA MIMS "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 Thaddeus Jablonskia Mims was born on February 7, 1960, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Willie Owens and Anna Louise Mims-Brantley. Thaddeus was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mary Grace Langford and Willie Langford and graduated from Stanhope Elmore High School, Millbrook, Alabama in 1979. He transitioned from this life to eternal rest on September 26, 2023. Thaddeus left Montgomery, Alabama at the age of 18 and joined the United States Army on September 11, 1979. His first duty station for two years was at Ft. Bragg, Fayetteville, North Carolina. He then served two years of active duty in Germany. He returned to Ft. Bragg for two more years, went back to Germany again, then for one year he was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He got out of the military in 1992. At that time, he started working for Coty Inc. in Sanford, North Carolina. Thaddeus moved up at Coty Inc. to become a Bulk Compounder, Grade 7. Several years later, Thaddeus re-enlisted in the Army Reserve. In 2014, Thaddeus retired from the Army as Sergeant First Class, completing 30 years of military service. In 2010, Thaddeus was ordered to active duty for Global War on terrorism. He was stationed at Ft. Pickett in Virginia, where he met Marlene Porter. On January 2011, they both were stationed at Camp Parks, Dublin, California. They both returned to their homes of residency in October 2011. In 2014, Marlene received orders for training at Ft. Bragg. Thaddeus invited Marlene over for a home cooked dinner of ribs and collard greens, which she fell in love with. She came back the next day for more and continued to come back. Marlene graduated from college on June 1, 2018. That same night, Thaddeus proposed to her and they were married on August 17, 2019 and have shared a union of love, trust and laughter ever since. Thaddeus was a life-long Mason of Nero Prince #47 in Fulda, Germany. His favorite past times were riding motorcycles, shooting pool, playing dominoes, bowling, playing basketball and racquetball. He also enjoyed dancing, listening to his Southern Soul music, while Fish Fry Fridays became a tradition in the Mims' home. He always traveled with his wife seeing the world, visiting friends, family and grandchildren whom they affectionately called "Grandpa T". Thaddeus was preceded in death by his mother Anna Louise Mims-Brantley; father Willie Owens; aunt Mary Grace Langford and uncle Willie Langford, aunt Willie Mae Robinson, sister Priscilla Lamar, brother David "Gus" Mims, and nephew Zachary Owens, Sr. Thaddeus leaves to cherish his life and memories: his beloved wife Marlene Mims; three stepchildren: Tenean, Tracenia and Isaiah; godson Dominick Sumpter; grandchildren: Nevaeh, Sean, DeMarcus, Marenah, Tamia, Camren, and Hiko. Sisters: Gloria Tucker (Jimmy), and Ida Walker. Nieces and nephews: Emma Rudolph (Marvin), Monica McQueen (Arthur), Kunta Mims (Tamika), Ellis Mims (Jamell), Shaneka Mills (Samuel), George Stewart, and Mayor Kelvin Owens; a host of great nieces and nephews, colleagues, and many friends, especially those who he endearingly referred to as, "My Brothers".
