His Life Story William R. Baker, affectionately known as "Daddy" by his children, entered this world on November 13, 1950, in Mariana, Florida, as the beloved son of the late Mary Lee Baker, Educated in the nurturing embrace of Jackson County Schools. William's journey was one of dedication and service. With a heart of gold, William peacefully departed this life on April 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. A hardworking and servant soul, William served his country with pride and dignity as an esteemed soldier for 20 years in the United States army, touring Vietnam and Germany. After retiring as a Staff Sergeant, he spent 15 years as a Long Haul, Nationwide Truck Driver, accumulating over a "Million Miles' before enjoying retirement. William, a beacon of warmth and kindness, embodied the essence of Proverbs 18:24, for he never met a stranger and saw the goodness in everyone. His leisure moments found solace in the company of his beloved companion, Miss Bella Baker, a Chihuahua with whom he shared countless sunlit strolls in the park. A true aficionado of sports, his heartbeat in rhythm with the Miami Dolphins and the Florida state Seminoles. William leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Baker, and their children: Derrick Baker (Janet) of Atlanta, Georgia; Jeff Baker (Cynthia) of Fayetteville, NC; Kim Baker Peterkin (Rodney) of Fayetteville, NC; Aiana Abron and Daquan Abron, both of Fayetteville, NC. He is survived by his brother, Qualley Baker, of Lake Wales, Florida, and sister, MaryAnn Williams, of Lake Wales, Florida. His presence will be deeply missed by his eleven grandchildren: Whitney Baker, Alexa Baker, Areia Baker, Sade Southerland, Darius Baker, Brianna Baker, DaMarcus Baker (Myka), Malieke Bradfield, Miracle Holmes, Ava Abron, and Zailani Abron. His love extends to his five great-grandchildren: Kevin Miller, Nylah Baker, Knoah Battles, kyrie Baker, and Marcus Baker. William's expansive family includes six brothers-in-law: Tony Council, Dewayne Council, Anthony Harley, Jerry Council, William Harley Jr., and the Late Vernon Council, along with three sisters-in-law: Phyllis Council, Carolyn Hayes, and Christina Harley. He is preceded in death by his brothers, John Henry Jones and Jeff Baker, and his sisters, Edna Daniels, and Margie Baker. A sincere thank you goes out to Mr. Willie Perry, William's dedicated barber, who went above and beyond to ensure he looked his best, even during his illness. Mr. Perry's kindness and great conversation provided comfort during difficult times. Additionally, heartfelt gratitude is extended to Mr. Bobby Williams, who played an invaluable role in William's care. More than a brother, Mr. Williams sat with him, unasked, offering companionship and support. His willingness to assist with tasks such as cutting grass, cleaning cars, and ensuring William's wife had everything she needed, embodies the true essence of friendship and love.
