Mrs. Yvonne Richburg

Yvonne Richburg was born on November 12, 1948, in Alabama to the late Gladys Pope and Walter Pope. Yvonne transitioned from this life on July 2, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Yvonne attended public schools in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was an active participant in the Biloxi Wade-Ins that were conducted by local African Americans on the beaches of Biloxi, Mississippi, between 1959 and 1963 which led to the integration of public beaches on the Mississippi Coast during the civil rights era. She was a majorette during her high school years. She thoroughly enjoyed attending class reunions to reunite and reminisce with classmates and loved ordering clothes for these events that would make a "Fashion Statement". Yvonne relocated from Biloxi, MS, to Fayetteville, NC, after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She retired from Keesler Air Force Base in 2005. She commenced working at Great Expectations when their doors opened in 2006 and was employed there until she transitioned from this life. She always assisted with parties and events for both staff and clients and will always be an important part of Great Expectations. Both staff and clients will deeply miss her. Yvonne had a giving spirit. She was a quiet giver. She gave to those in need and never expected any accolades. She read her scriptures every morning and thanked God for letting her see another day. She always saw the best in all and definitely believed that everyone deserved a second chance. She believed that Jesus Christ---our Lord and Savior--died for our sins and rose again. Yvonne loved sports. She was a very New Orleans Saints fan. She also loved the Lost Angeles Lakers. She watched football and basketball faithfully. You would know if the Saints won because she would call everyone in town with the phrase "WHO DAT". She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Dr. Monica Strange (Darryl) of Fayetteville, NC, son, Terrance Pope of Fayetteville, NC; son Julius Richburg of Fayetteville, NC; daughter Twilla Richburg of Biloxi, MS, and daughter Montasha Richburg of Fayetteville, NC. She leaves 11 grandchildren to treasure her memories: Michael Pope, Tiana Pope, Zavion Richburg, TreZure Moore, Adaysha Richburg, Julianna Richburg, Braylen James, Emonty Peterson, Aniah Collins, Shamiya Peterson and Christian Lamar Richburg. She leaves her baby sister Floydie Smith to dote on her memories as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
