Addie Elsie Hines
January 20, 1944 - February 7, 2021
On the evening on February 7, 2021 our Heavenly Father called upon Addie Elise Singletary Hines to peacefully enter her eternal rest by his side. Her faith and devotion to God guided her while on earth and will continue in her spiritual life. Addie, daughter of the late Lawrence and Gracie Singletary, was born on January 20, 1944 in Bladen County, North Carolina. Addie accepted God at an early age and was a member of Round Branch Baptist Church. In her youth, Addie attended Spaulding Monroe School where she graduated in 1961 before moving to New York to begin a new chapter in both her life and career. While in New York, Addie met her late husband, Edward Hines, with whom she enjoyed a beautiful and loving marriage. She was a valuable asset to the New York City Telephone Company, proudly working as a General Service Representative. Addie and Eddie relocated back to her home state of North Carolina as proud retirees. Upon her return, Addie became a strong pillar within the First Baptist Church and Lumberton community. She quickly immersed herself in many organizations: Suzie Scales Floral Club, Seasons Saints, Zeta Amicas , Sanctuary Choir, Robinson Country Christian Woman’s Club. Addie served as President of Women of the Church for two years. She was such a spiritual woman, and it was shown by her words and actions. Addie was one of a kind “phenomenal” woman, her youthful spirit was palpable and infectious. She was celebrated for her gracious hospitality, welcoming all into her home. She would cook the most delicious meals and share them either at her table, by “carry outs” given at the door or brought to your car at the sidewalk. Any day with Addie was a wonderful day filled with laughter, advice and plenty of talking. When asked, Addie was known to give her honest opinion with grace and good humor. Addie overlooked faults, finding the good in everyone which made her a confidant to many. Addie traveled frequently to dine out and spend time with her adoring, boisterous family. She amassed a long list of friends, seamlessly blending into any group as just another a girlfriend or second mom. Addie also loved sports; basketball, football, tennis you name it, she loved it. Anyone who had a passion for sports, loved talking shop with Addie Hines. Her vast knowledge of sports history was insurmountable, so don’t challenge her.
