May 5, 1946 - May 2, 2021
“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” (Proverbs 31:29-30, NIV) On Sunday, May 2, early in the morning, God in His infinite wisdom called to eternal rest our beloved Betty Ann Crumpler. The sixth of nine children, she was born to the late James and Lula Crumpler, Sr. Betty matriculated through the Fayetteville School System and obtained her high school diploma from E.E. Smith High School. Her skills in organizing, administrating, and typing led her to obtain her Associates Degree in Business at Worth Business College. Ms. Crumpler utilized her skills in various administrative positions, and eventually was employed by Fayetteville State University within the math department where she provided exemplary services for faculty and connected naturally with students who would often collaborate in her office where they received nurturance and guidance. After receiving various awards for excellence and thirty years of employment (1976-2006), Betty retired from Fayetteville State. She continued to be a nurturer and caretaker by working part time for Community Based Developmental Company for several years after retirement as a special needs advocate. Although Betty was very proud of her professional successes, she was most enthusiastic about her relationship with Christ. She accepted Christ at a young age. After rededicating her life to the Lord, she subsequently joined Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member for thirty-eight years. During her nearly four decades of membership, Betty served dutifully in several ministries including Inspirational Gospel Choir, SIG Mass Choir, Greeters (former chairperson), Hospitality committee, Finance committee, and Trustee. She also faithfully attended Sunday School and Missionary meetings. Sis. Crumpler was a woman of strong faith and she utilized her faith to persevere through many health challenges. She frequently shared her testimony of how good God had been to her and the gratitude for the “new kidney He gave me” almost 15 years ago. Betty’s second love after Christ was conspicuously her love for her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. She frequently bragged about her grands’ accomplishments and often solicited prayers for each of them. Betty had the natural ability to make those in her presence feel uniquely special. She had a quiet and sweet spirit, and her presence at any family event was greatly anticipated and enjoyed. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Those who will forever cherish the memories and moments they shared with her include her devoted children Kimberly Crumpler Farmer of Fayetteville and Brian Todd Crumpler of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Brittany F. Henry (Ronnie), Gene T. Farmer, Jr. and Bria Farmer, all of Fayetteville, great-granddaughter, Raeghan Henry; siblings, Lula Glaze and Jesse Crumpler (Olive) of Philadelphia, Pa; Dorothy Thomas and Naomi Herron(Harvey) of Fayetteville, NC; George Crumpler(Ruby), of St. Stephens, SC and Dexter Crumpler(Kathy) of Newark, NJ; traveling buddy, Vivian McPherson, phone buddy, Ruby Crumpler and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
