“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.” A voice at midnight called, he started out to hear, a mortal arrow pierced his frame, he fell but felt no fear. Eddie Glenn Melvin answered the call of God and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 4:07 p.m. at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Eddie was born April 23, 1955 to the late Foster S. Melvin and Della Marie Haire-Melvin in Cumberland County, Fayetteville, NC. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Foster Sylvester Melvin and Della Marie Haire Melvin; paternal grandparents, Cuffie and Gertrude Avery Melvin; maternal grandparents, Roy and Rena HAIR and his brother Wendell Brunson. He confessed Christ during his early teen age years and joined the Greater First Baptist Church of Cedar Creek. Eddie was educated in the Cumberland County Schools and graduated from Cape Fear High School in June 1973. After graduating, he had a desire to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army where he served a number of years. He was affectionately called “Glenn” by many of his family and friends. After his honorable discharge from the military, he pursued a career as a long-distance truck driver for many transportation companies. Eddie was able to fulfill one of his lifetime goals of owning his own “eighteen-wheeler.” He joined and became a member of the Silver Square Masonic Lodge #791. Eddie is survived by his son Eddie Jr., two daughters Jaywana Davis, Fayetteville, NC and Sharita Melvin-Clark (Mark) Fort Sills, Oklahoma, stepdaughters, Danielle Johnson, Talisha Johnson, all of Fayetteville, NC; one stepson, Terrell Johnson, Taylorsville, NC; five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; one sister, Ivy Melvin Dowe (Jesse), Magnolia, NC; aunts, Eunice Melvin, Sally Avery Jones, Shirley Melvin Dumas, Albenia Melvin, all of Fayetteville, NC; uncles, Richard Haire, Robert Spell, Sam Jones, all of Fayetteville, NC; “Devoted Like-a-Brother”, Donald Murchison, Fayetteville, NC; generations of nieces and nephews; a HOST of other friends and family.
