Mr. Ervin Greene Jr.

May 31, 1939 - February 12, 2022

Ervin Greene Jr, a military veteran and long-time resident of Fayetteville, NC died on 2/12/2022 at the age of 82. Ervin is survived by his loving wife, Albertha Marie Greene of 60 years. Those left to cherish Mr. Greene’s memories include his 6 children: Lela Whitfield (Mark); Denovia Smith (Bobby); Ervin “Bobby” Greene III; Florence Smith; Herbert Jerome Greene (Nicole) and Francis Robert Greene (Dana); his 27 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Ervin is also survived by 2 brothers: Samuel Cohen (Candace) Willie Frank Cohen (Judy) and 5 sisters: Ida Mae Green, Janie Smith (Fred), Sylvia Brisbane (Robert), Alneatha West, and Sandra Stoney (Robert) and his uncle, Julius Gathers. He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Green; his mother, Florence Green Cohen; his brother, Earl Greene; and his sister, Martha Greene Robinson. Ervin was born on 5/31/1939 in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. He met the love of his life in high school and shortly thereafter started a family and joined the military. He dutifully served 30+ years in the military and rose to the ranks of Sergeant Major in the Army traveling throughout the United States and to such exotic places as Korea, Vietnam, Turkey, and Japan. In 1991, he finally retired from the US Army. After retirement, he continued his adventures traveling cross country working with Schneider Trucking Company. He eventually decided that he had seen enough of the world and went on permanent vacation. He was a spiritual man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, listening to gospel music and landscaping. He had a work ethic that many of his children modeled. We all loved his infectious laugh. He will be missed. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers of Fayetteville and Raeford, NC.
