LT. COL. Floyd Williams

Retired LTC Floyd Williams was born April 6, 1939 in Gallman, Mississippi to the late Ernest & Ethel Williams. Floyd, who everyone affectionately called "Bill", was the oldest of 5 children, after three of which preceded him in death, Annie Ruth Ingram, David Williams and Curtisine Teal, . Floyd was educated in the Detroit Public School System and graduated from Sidney D. Miller High School in 1957. He enlisted into the U.S. Army, shortly after he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Rozier. To this union, four children were born. Two preceded him in death, Gwendolyn Louise Williams and Andre Rozier Williams. Later he would have another daughter, Khia Wood. The Military was his life! He proudly served for 32 years! While serving, he received numerous medals which included; the Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and an Overseas service Ribbon just to name a few. Floyd excelled as a soldier in the 82nd Airborne, Special Forces and as a Ranger. While serving our country, he took time to further his education by receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at Park College in 1973 and a Master's Degree in Public Administration at Webster University in 1985. He also taught Military Science at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. Michigan. After retiring from the Army in 1989, Floyd worked as a contractual worker for the Government. During his retirement, he took time to enjoy those most important to him...his family and friends. This was displayed by going to graduations, family reunions and hanging with old military buddies. His pride and joy was having a birthday celebration each April. Floyd leaves to cherish his memories; two daughters, Ladrey Williams Brown (Stan), North Carolina, Khia Wood, Korea, ; one son, Maurice M. Williams, North Carolina, one sister, Barbara Hawthorne (Leon) Canton, Michigan, 3 granddaughters, Maurisa L. Brown, Tanisha Henderson and Makenzie Walden, one grandson Antione Williams and one great grandchild, Armuni Williams and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He'll also be missed by close friends George and Mary Winder and the Mike Taylor Family.
