Bro. Ike Singletary

Mr. Ike Singletary Sr. was born January 12, 1960, to the late Avance Singletary and Lizzie Jones Singletary in Lumberton, North Carolina. Ike was the youngest of nine children. He grew up in Hestertown where he attended the Public Schools of Robeson County. Ike graduated from Orrum High school in June of 1978. Immediately following high school graduation, Ike joined the United States Army, graduating basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He received his Military Occupational Specialty as a Chinook Aircraft Mechanic in Fort Eustis Virginia after graduating Advanced Individual Training. Ike’s first duty station was in Fort Hood, Texas. In December 1, 1980, Ike was united in Holy Matrimony to Jean Armwood in Dillon South Carolina. In March of 1981, the couple had their first child. Ike’s second duty station was Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; in May 1984 and July 1985 the couple had their second and third child. Ike was stationed in Barbers Point, Hawaii; Fort Eustis, Virginia; Camp Humphrey, Korea; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief for 20 years. Ike retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon retirement, Ike was an employee of Burlington, Lockheed Martin, and L3 where he continued a career as an aircraft mechanic until 2012 when he medically retired. Ike was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He was a devoted member of Mt. Sinai United Holy Church of Lumberton N.C. serving as a deacon and male/mass choir. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Avance Singletary Jr. and LeVance Singletary. Left to cherish his memories: wife, Jean Singletary of the home, daughter, Atilya Singletary of Columbia, SC, two sons, Ike Singletary II (Breanne) of Newnan, GA and Cedric Singletary (Brittany) of North Augusta, SC, his beloved buddy, Benji. Ten grandchildren: Kristoffer Jones Jr, Ike Singletary III, Xia Singletary, Leon Walters, Kameron Jones, Keoni Reid, Mya Singletary, Kyrie Singletary, Karter Singletary, and Isabella Singletary. Four sisters: Carrie Herrings of Tallahassee, FL, Millie Parham of Beaver Falls, PA, Sarah Jean Williams of Tampa, FL and Lillian Bowens (Kenny) of Williamstown, NJ. Two brothers: Darnell Singletary of Charlotte, NC, and Roscoe Singletary of Staten Island, NY. Four sister-in-laws: Dorothy McKenzie (Cornelius), Romona Brandon, Debra McCall, Selena Vinson (Kenneth). Seven brother-in-laws: Willie Ray Armwood, Davie Armwood, Walter McCall, Dennis McCall, Christopher McCall, Anthony McCall, Donnie McKoy. Host of Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
